South Ealing's Historic Cemetery Chapels Set for New Life Thanks to £20,000 National Lottery Award won by Ealing Parks Foundation

The Ealing Parks Foundation is proud to announce it has been awarded a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to preserve and enhance South Ealing Cemetery, the 21-acre heritage site home to two Grade II-listed Victorian chapels that have stood at the heart of the community since 1861.

The grant marks a significant milestone for the Foundation’s project at South Ealing, providing essential resources to continue and widen community engagement, education and environmental preservation in the cemetery grounds.
Project Highlights
The funding will support a variety of initiatives including in the short term:
-
Volunteer equipment such as additional gardening equipment and a shelter and materials to support community volunteering and activity days
-
Biodiversity: additional bird and bat boxes
-
Additional planted areas, including the war memorial and front bed, sustainably designed to weather a changing climate
-
Improved and more accessible signage across the cemetery site
Longer term projects supported by this funding are currently being investigated, including the creation of an audio nature and history trail, additional nature-based activities and the appointment of a project officer to support community engagement.

A boost for the local area
Co-chairs Jane Fernley and Paul Carter said: “We are delighted with this award. Ealing Parks Foundation have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from visitors since we first became involved here and this money will enable us to do more to help people understand better the fantastic nature and heritage of this very special place.”

Investing in Ealing’s Future
By revitalising the space at South Ealing Cemetery, Ealing Parks Foundation aims to transform a relatively underutilised heritage site into a space for community relaxation and reflection. EPF has announced its next series of community events throughout the summer, from volunteering sessions gardening and caring for the chapels, to the next visit of the Wandering Fox Market on the 6th June and a bat walk on 24th July.
